FAQs

What is an LPN to BSN program?

An LPN to BSN program helps licensed practical nurses (LPNs) earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and prepare to become registered nurses (RNs). Programs like these build on the nursing knowledge and clinical experience you’ve gained as an LPN and help you advance to the next level of nursing. Many programs award advanced placement credit for your prior licensure to help you finish faster.

At WCU-Miami, the LPN to BSN program is offered on campus with three pace options. You’ll earn 9 credits of advanced placement for your LPN licensure, applied toward the 120 credits required for your BSN.

How long does the LPN to BSN program at WCU-Miami take?

You can earn your BSN at WCU-Miami in as few as 34 months at the Accelerated pace. WCU-Miami offers three program paces:

  • Accelerated—34 months (7 semesters)
  • Evening and Weekend—39 months (8 semesters)
  • Working Professional—49 months (10 semesters)

All three paces are taught on campus and require 120 total credits. Eligible previous coursework may transfer as additional credits, which can help you finish faster.

How many credits will I receive as an LPN entering the BSN program at WCU-Miami?

Your LPN licensure earns you 9 credits of advanced placement at WCU-Miami. After you complete the two transition courses—Introduction to Professional Nursing (NURS 110) and the RN Skills Laboratory (NURS 210L)—those 9 credits are applied toward your BSN (course code NURS 199D or NURS 199E). The full BSN degree requires 120 credits.

Beyond those 9 advanced placement credits, eligible previous coursework can be evaluated for transfer. Any additional approved transfer credits can help shorten your time to completion.

What program paces does WCU-Miami offer for the LPN to BSN program?

WCU-Miami is the only WCU campus that offers three pace options for the LPN to BSN program. You can choose the pace that fits your schedule and goals:

  • Accelerated pace—7 semesters, 34 months, on campus, 120 credits
  • Evening and Weekend pace—8 semesters, 39 months, on campus, 120 credits
  • Working Professional pace—10 semesters, 49 months, on campus, 120 credits

All three paces lead to the same BSN degree. Program lengths vary by schedule and session.

Can I pursue the LPN to BSN program while working?

Absolutely! We offer multiple program paces to help accommodate working students, including an Evening and Weekend program that lets you complete all lectures and labs during after-work hours and weekends. There is also a Working Professional pace that lets you take fewer classes per term for maximum flexibility. Your advisor can help you figure out which pace is right for you.

Can I become a registered nurse after completing the LPN to BSN program?

Yes! Our LPN to BSN program helps prepare you for the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. Additionally, as a WCU student and graduate, you get access to a variety of tools and resources that help you study for the exam, including no-cost tutoring.

What are the simulation labs like at WCU-Miami?
