A Letter From Our Clinical Team
On behalf of the faculty and staff in West Coast University’s nurse practitioner programs, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your service as a clinical preceptor to our nurse practitioner students. Precepting students is an exceptional opportunity to pay forward the work of your own preceptors and help shape the next generation of nurse practitioners. As a preceptor and mentor, you are our partner in integrating classroom learning with the clinical setting. Your role is crucial in the clinical education of our students and in advancing the nurse practitioner profession. We deeply value your commitment to supporting student learning within your clinical practice, and we greatly appreciate all your efforts.
Welcome and thank you for agreeing to serve as a preceptor to a West Coast University nurse practitioner student!
Discover the Rewards of Preceptorship
On this preceptor resource page, you’ll find valuable information to enhance your experience as a clinical preceptor. Our goal is to ensure you have everything you need to succeed in the role. Thank you for serving as a preceptor to a WCU future nurse practitioner!
The Benefits of Being a Preceptor
Preceptors are nurse practitioners, physicians, or licensed therapy providers who mentor students during their clinical rotations. Preceptors provide invaluable guidance and support to students as they learn to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world clinical practice.
Preceptorship is a valuable experience that can help preceptors, students, and the nursing profession as a whole! Some of the advantages of becoming a preceptor include:
- Increased productivity as the student(s) develop assessment and diagnostic skills
- The opportunity to expand your knowledge base as students bring new insights from their education
- The ability to earn precepting hours that might contribute towards the renewal of state licensures or national certifications
- The satisfaction of watching students grow into safe, effective, and successful practitioners
We are pleased to offer an honorarium to our nurse practitioner preceptors who have met the criteria for approval. For more information please contact wcupreceptorsupport@westcoastuniversity.edu.
Become a Preceptor
Preceptors for our APRN programs are required to hold an unrestricted professional APRN, MD/DO, or therapy license in the state of practice, have at least one year of experience, and specialize in a relevant area.
