WCU PharmD Students Making an Impact in Community

In celebration of American Pharmacist month, we wanted to recognize our West Coast University’s Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students who have made impacts in the community through outreach.

“With our growing student body, our goal is to provide as many opportunities as we can for student involvement at these outreach events,” WCU’s assistant professor of pharmacy practice Aida Oganesyan said.

WCU’s PharmD students returned to the East Hollywood Certified Farmers’ Market on Sept. 8, and the Los Angeles City College Swap Meet on Oct. 1. Under preceptor supervision, WCU students provided patients with blood pressure screenings along with patient education regarding medication adherence and lifestyle modifications to improve cardiovascular health.

“In our effort to increase public awareness of pharmacists as accessible healthcare providers, we intend to deliver a variety of health services to patients at our outreach events,” Oganesyan said. “WCU students will be providing blood glucose tests at the East Hollywood Certified Farmers’ Market on Oct. 13 and we are excited to provide patients with this service.”
