WCU-Miami Hosts Day in the Life of a Nurse Event for Local High School Students

West Coast University-Miami welcomed juniors and seniors from Miami Northwestern Senior High School (MNW) on May 18 for a Day in the Life of a Nurse event.

Nearly half of the students in attendance were in the process of gaining their practical nursing license (LPN) which gives them the opportunity to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) upon graduating from high school. MNW students and teachers were excited to learn that WCU offers an LPN-BSN degree program.

“This is great news because there are few opportunities in our community or surrounding area that would grant this option,” one MNW teacher said.

The MNW students had a great time learning while experiencing the advantages and benefits WCU can offer. The students experienced several different labs available at WCU-Miami, including the newest high-fidelity simulator in the skills lab, the birthing suite, and the BIOPAC science lab. The event ended with lunch, certificates of participation and a Q&A session.

“We are excited that several of the students will be looking to start the admissions process with WCU upon graduation and passing their LPN licensure exams,” WCU Community Outreach Liaison Edwin Garcia Jr. said.
