Panel interviews.” Valerie listed off the milestones every nursing student recognizes with a bittersweet mix of anxiety and pride. Her speech reminded fellow graduates that they weren’t alone in those challenges. Valerie’s story began in a chaotic emergency room in 2019. Faced with overwhelmed hospitals and patients in crisis, she witnessed firsthand the selfless strength of nurses. That moment inspired her to pursue a career in healthcare, leading her to West Coast University in Ontario, California — a decision she says changed the trajectory of her life.
“Remember your why,” she told her fellow graduates. “We’ve been chosen for this honor. It’s our insatiable appetite to help others that has shaped us into the nurses we are today.”

She also thanked her family, friends, professors and seven women of her dedicated cohort who stood by her side every step of the way.
