BSN Graduates Get VIP Treatment at WCU-LA Career Fair

Nursing grads from West Coast University-Los Angeles got an exclusive opportunity to speak with more than 20 health care employers at a career fair on April 20.

More than 120 WCU students and graduates attended the event, but BSN grads were treated to a new one-hour “VIP session.”

“I think that turned out really well because employers really got to spend some time with graduates before the students came out,” Arpine Zohrabyan, WCU-LA career services director, said at the event. Students, she said, often are looking more for information about future opportunities, companies hiring certified nursing assistants or researching volunteer experience.

“The grads are all about the jobs,” Zohrabyan said, laughing.

Besides finding work, job fairs are excellent ways to learn how to network and hear firsthand what professional recruiters want in nursing candidates.

“We really provide students and grads an opportunity to network with everybody and to really get themselves out there in the nursing field, to get to know all the recruiters and HR managers because it is competitive out there and the sooner they start their job search, the better it is for their career in the future,” she said.

Campuses typically hold two career fairs each year, in additional to volunteer fairs and health care community events, but Zohrabyan wanted WCU students to know the Career Services department is always available to help with job leads, career opportunities or portfolio preparations.

“We want everyone to really utilize Career Services, because it is a big plus to have them here and we do go above and beyond for our students,” Zohrabyan said.
