Five West Coast University Doctor of Physical Therapy students and faculty member Dr. Natalie Weeks-O’Neal, traveled to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana to perform outreach with Native American youth in April.
The WCU DPT program partnered with the Fort Peck Tribes Health Promotion and Disease Prevention to perform workshops on injury prevention and healthy living. The students taught 120 high school students, six coaches and the school’s athletic director about ACL injury prevention. They also educated 50 elementary students on safe backpack practices.
During the trip the physical therapy students were also able to participate in cultural activities including singing, arrow making and touring a buffalo ranch.
