WCU Dental Hygiene Clinic Hosts Sixth Annual Smile Camp

West Coast University held its sixth annual smile camp this February, which is National Children’s Dental Health month.

Reason to Smile

  • The free Dental Hygiene Clinic at West Coast University-Orange County is a teaching facility offering a variety of services for adults and children, delivered by both students and supervising dental hygienists and dentists.
  • For your free appointment, call (877) 928-2546
  • The clinic is located on the fourth floor at 1477 South Manchester Ave., Anaheim, 92802.

At the event, WCU dental hygiene students and instructors provided children with no-cost dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, X-rays and sealants.

April Turner, dental hygiene clinic senior coordinator, said WCU’S Smile Camp is a great way for families to receive services at one time, which can help children not be afraid of the dentist.

“A lot of these children have not been to the dentist before so we try and really help them feel comfortable and let them know what’s going on when they visit the dental office,” Turner said.

Turner said she also enjoys working with the students, who are always passionate when teaching children how to brush, floss and take care of their teeth.

“To see somebody who is so new to this and so excited about helping other people and improving their dental health, that’s very inspiring to me,” she said.

Josefina Burgess brought her son to Smile Camp after hearing about it from a friend. She said the staff at the dental hygiene clinic were friendly and welcoming. She also appreciated the hygienist’s patience with her 4-year-old son and her attempts to make him laugh.

“I would definitely come back,” Burgess said. “I was tempted to ask her to clean my teeth.”
