WCU-Dallas Celebrates Fall Commencement 2016

More than 90 graduates crossed the Plano Centre stage during the fall commencement ceremony for West Coast University-Dallas this November.

Nursing graduate Megan Shorter said she worked in veterinary medicine for almost 11 years and chose to attend West Coast University after hearing good things about its BSN program.

“I’m really passionate about the holistic health care that we provide our animals, so I came into the field to provide holistic health care and expand my experiences.”

Shorter, who just started her emergency room residency at Parkland Hospital, eventually wants to work for CareFlite and provide disaster relief for people and animals. She advised her fellow nursing students to “learn every day” and to not beat themselves up if they don’t know something.

“Ask questions and don’t be scared,” she said.

Fellow BSN graduate Beth Weber enrolled at WCU-Dallas because the accelerated BSN program allowed her to get started quickly towards her goal of becoming a nurse. Students may complete the program in as little as 39 months.

“I wanted to be a nurse for a really long time. I chose to come back to school after waiting for about 25 years so I feel very blessed today to finally be here,” she said.

Weber has been working in the pulmonology unit at Children’s Medical Center for four months and hopes to return to school later to get her masters and be a nurse practitioner.

“It’s just never too late to follow your dreams and never ever too late to start,” Weber said.
