Dear Students,
Our deepest condolences go out to the families of those whose lives were taken in this senseless tragedy in Parkland, Flordia.
The safety and security of our students, associates and everyone in our institution is our first priority. Please know that our security staff who greet you each morning, are exceptionally well trained and are prepared to act without hesitation to thwart any act of violence. We hope we may never have to utilize the Run, Hide, Fight protocol we’ve adopted from the Department of Homeland Security, but our agents and associates have been trained to utilize this protocol in case of a tragedy like the one we saw yesterday.
In addition, we use state of the art security technology to secure our campuses, classrooms and labs. We have a Global Operations Security Center staffed by highly trained officers who are only a phone call away in getting you help by calling (855) 955-9911. We have exceptional relationships with local law enforcement and emergency responders all ready to render aid in the worst of situations.
But, we need your help. We need each of you to be mindful of your surroundings. If you see something that concerns you, say something. Tell a faculty member or administrator or security officer. If you come across something on social media that is troubling, do the same … tell someone. We are all safer when we watch out for each other. Be mindful, be aware, be safe.
As we continue to enhance the safety at our campuses, you will see some changes and you may be asked to change your behavior, like wearing your ID at all times. Other changes are already underway and are behind the scenes. But at the end of the day, we want all of us to return home safely each day. This is a commitment that we all must share.
As a reminder, West Coast University has resources available through the “Student Assistance Program” for all our students who feel they may need some assistance with everyday issues, as well as counseling services. More information on these resources can be found on the following link www.AetnaSAP.com or call 877-351-7889
Once again, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families of the victims.
