WCU Alumni Get Social at Third Annual Summer Brunch

The West Coast University Alumni Network held its third annual Summer Brunch in Glendale, California. The “Let’s Get Social” event hosted alumni from all over California along with social media influencers from each major platform including Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Facebook Influencer Jonathan Llamas ’13 shared how important social media is in healthcare and the impact it can have.

“Social media has grown to be such a huge part in not just nursing but in healthcare in general,” Llamas said. “I’ve seen a lot of good and bad things that can come from it so I think that having this event can bring some awareness and allow people to realize the impact and the power social media has.”

WCU-Los Angeles Alumna Kayley Barron ’18 was excited for the opportunity to network with her peers in person rather than just seeing them on social media.

“It was a great opportunity just to come to the brunch to get to meet people,” Barron said. “I get to see a lot of people’s profile pictures but I have no idea who they are in real life and so getting a chance to come and actually meet them was really great.”

WCU-Ontario Alumnus Lyndon Hundley ’19 was interested to learn how social media can be used in a professional environment and how to leverage the WCU Alumni Network to his advantage.

“Social media is something that I know a little bit about but I definitely could learn more from the influences we have here today,” Hundley said. “LinkedIn isn’t something that I have spent a whole lot of energy on. I have a profile but I’ve learned how to enhance it because of West Coast University. I want to learn a bit more about how to leverage the network that I’ve put together into something that’s actually worthwhile.”
