2018 Alumni Awards Highlight: International Service

This award recognizes outstanding alumni who have participated in the Global Public Health and/or Oxford Honors programs and demonstrated a commitment to excellence in their chosen field and a devotion to the betterment of society and community abroad. This year the award was presented to William Gallegos.

William holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree as well as a Master of Health Administration from WCU and now utilizes those skills in his current position at USC Keck Medical Center. He has been a huge supporter of the Alumni Network since its beginning and has volunteered his time supporting the Future Alumni at grad panels and our Network with Nurses luncheons.

During his undergraduate years, he participated in the International Education program visiting not only Spain in 2015 but also attending the Oxford Honors program in 2016. This individual strives to give back to the community through his involvement in Los Angeles community clinics and encourages other WCU to participate. In addition to his local volunteerism, he also coordinates outreach tips to Tecate, Mexico to distribute much-needed household supplies and provide basic healthcare services to the residents.

Congratulations Williams! We look forward to supporting you on your future projects.
