What nursing programs can Plano students start at the WCU-Texas campus?

You can start two pre-licensure nursing programs at the Richardson campus. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) runs 120 credits, and you can earn it in as few as 39 months at the Accelerated pace. The LVN to BSN program is also 120 credits and takes as few as 34 months at the Accelerated pace. Your LVN licensure also earns you 9 units of advanced placement credit. Both programs run on 10-week terms, so start dates come up throughout the year. WCU-Texas also has no waitlist for its nursing programs. Both are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Can I finish my BSN online while working as an RN in Plano?

Yes. If you’re an active RN in the Plano area, the RN to BSN Online program lets you keep working while you earn your BSN. It’s a 120-credit program built for nurses who already hold an associate degree or diploma in nursing. Your coursework is available online 24/7 in 8-week terms, and a new term starts every 8 weeks. Pick the pace that fits your schedule: Accelerated Plus in as little as 8 months, Accelerated in 12 months, or Working Professional in 20 months. You’ll also complete 135 community experience hours: 90 direct, supervised hours plus 45 indirect hours through your coursework and you can do that work close to home. WCU distance education programs are delivered out of the California and Texas campuses and may not be available to residents in all states.

Where do WCU-Texas nursing students complete clinical rotations near Plano?

You’ll complete your clinicals at healthcare facilities across the Dallas metro area, so living in Plano generally won’t mean relocating. A dedicated Clinical Placements team helps you find a placement location and track your hours. Before your first rotation, you’ll take care of criminal background clearance, immunization documentation, current American Heart Association CPR for Health Providers certification, drug screening, and proof of health insurance. First, though, you’ll build your skills and confidence in the Richardson simulation labs. The Clinical Simulation Program there is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) in the areas of Teaching and Education.

Can I transfer credits from a Plano-area college into a WCU nursing program?

Eligible previous coursework may transfer, and you’ll have your transcript evaluated to determine which credits apply. For the BSN program at the Richardson campus, you can bring up to 52 general education transfer credits. Your general education courses must have a minimum grade of C, and core courses must have a minimum of C+. Science courses have to be completed within the last five calendar years. For nursing credits, no more than one year can pass between your last nursing course at a previous institution and your first course at WCU. Heading into the online RN to BSN instead? You can bring up to 90 eligible transfer credits: 51 nursing credits and 39 general education credits.

What do I need to apply to nursing school at WCU-Texas?

For the BSN program, you’ll submit your WCU application and documentation of your high school diploma or equivalent, and you’ll complete an admissions interview. You’ll also need one entrance exam score: a HESI composite of 76 or higher, a TEAS score of 52 or higher, an SAT of 835 or higher, or an ACT of 16 or higher. Your scores need to be within three years of enrollment.

Applying to LVN to BSN? You’ll also need to show proof of current, unobstructed licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. For the online RN to BSN, you’ll need an active, unencumbered RN license in any U.S. state or territory, plus an associate degree or diploma in nursing with a 2.25 CGPA or better. Eligible students may receive the New Student Achievement Grant, worth up to $9,500 per academic year. Financial Aid & Scholarships are available for those who qualify. Call for an interview or request info to get started.
