Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) refers to healthcare workers who provide basic patient care under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals, such as registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical nurses (LPNs). UAPs, also known as nursing assistants, nursing aides, or patient care technicians, assist patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting. They may also take vital signs, help patients with mobility, transport patients within healthcare facilities, and provide emotional support. UAPs typically receive on-the-job training or complete a brief certification program, but they do not hold professional licenses like registered or licensed practical nurses.
