Nearly 100 WCU-OC graduates received their alumni pin and recited the Florence Nightingale Pledge during the event, symbolically joining the ranks of professional nursing.
“It’s their initiation into the profession. Now the faculty and the dean that they’ve learned so much from have now become colleagues,” WCU-OC Student Affairs Director Sherry Koshi said.
Koshi said while many people enjoy the pomp surrounding commencement exercises, pinning ceremonies are always remembered fondly by former WCU students.
“It’s more intimate than graduation. It’s the people they’ve cried, laughed, screamed and studied all night with. It’s just their cohort, celebrating the completion of a very, very hard program,” she said.
