WCU-Miami Public Health Students Volunteer at 2018 Community and Veteran Stand Down

West Coast University-Miami students in their public health term participated this October in the “Miami Community and Veteran Stand Down,” sponsored by the city of Miami. This is the third year the Miami campus has volunteered at this event.

Students provided screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose and health teachings on different health issues to more than 70 people that day.

WCU-Miami nursing instructor Angela Arocha said students were able to experience a community event where many partners from Miami provided different services including free haircuts, showers, courthouse, placement in shelters, no-cost healthcare, referrals and many other resources.

“It was truly a life-changing and humbling experience for the nursing students, the nursing instructors and for myself,” Arocha said.
