More than 40 West Coast University physical therapy doctorate students and faculty performed health screenings for residents of the Star Apartments in late June.

The day started at WCU’s Center for Graduate Studies, where the group took nearby public transportation to the 102-unit complex. The six-story, 95,000-square-foot building was built in 2013 by the Skid Row Housing Trust to help the city’s chronically homeless.

Skid Row occupies approximately 50 square blocks just east of downtown Los Angeles. Also known as Central City East, the area has a long history as a neighborhood for those with the least.

Approximately 100 people were treated at the health screening, which included testing blood pressure, balance and grip strength and walking activities.
