Inaugural Interprofessional Education Day Increases Collaboration Across Disciplines

West Coast University hosted the inaugural Interprofessional Education Day on Friday, October 2, where students across healthcare education disciplines and campuses came together to solve a patient scenario. The University-wide day was held at West Coast University-Center for Graduate Studies and focused on collaboration amongst the healthcare disciplines and how it positively impacts the safe administration of healthcare. Students from Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy and Health Administration participated in solving a group scenario throughout the day.

“Patient-centered care through interprofessional practice is one of the key characteristics of a West Coast University graduate,” Provost Jeb Egbert, Ed.D. said. “At IPE Day we worked towards achieving the core competencies of Interprofessional Collaborative Practice so that our students become valued members of any healthcare team, and we believe we accomplished that goal.”
