Assemblywomen Eloise Gómez Reyes (D-San Bernardino) stopped by West Coast University-Ontario this September to tour the campus and learn about the opportunities a health care education can provide students.
Reyes was accompanied during her visit by WCU-Ontario executive director Mitch Thomas, campus Academic Dean Bart Lerner and campus Director of Nursing Diane Morey, along with WCU Alumni Shaleena Bonjour and WCU global public health student and Oxford Honors scholar Juanita Avila.
“We love having the opportunity to show off our students and campus to elected officials in our community,” Thomas said. “Not only was Assemblywoman Reyes’ visit a valuable civic exercise for our students, but hopefully she walked away understanding what a valuable role West Coast University plays in her district and the state of California.”
During her tour, Reyes explored WCU-Ontario’s simulation center, met with the Career Services department and sat down with a panel of nursing students and alumni.
“I was really impressed with her sincere interest in the learning experiences at WCU. Her questions demonstrated she values education, and specifically the educational opportunities for our students in simulation and overall here at WCU,” Thomas said. “She was highly engaged in listening to our students share their experiences.”
Reyes was elected in November 2016 to represent California’s 47th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Colton, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Rialto, San Bernardino, and the unincorporated communities of Bloomington and Muscoy.
