Preoperative Nurse

A Preoperative Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) specialized in providing care to patients before they undergo surgery. Preoperative nurses obtain patients’ medical histories, conduct physical assessments, review medications, and verify consent forms. They educate patients about the surgical process, including what to expect before, during, and after the procedure, as well as any preoperative instructions or restrictions. Preoperative nurses collaborate with other members of the surgical team, such as surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists, to ensure a smooth transition into the operating room. Additionally, they may administer medications, start intravenous (IV) lines, and provide emotional support to alleviate anxiety and promote patient comfort before surgery.
