Biography

Dr. Leila Nuri is an Associate Professor at West Coast University’s Physical Therapy Program, having joined in November 2024. Dr. Nuri earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran, in 2010, and her Master’s degree in Sports Physical Therapy from the same institution in 2012. She completed her PhD in Human Tendon Biomechanics at Griffith University, Australia, in 2017. Additionally, she pursued a prestigious postdoctoral research fellowship with the National Institutes of Health, contributing to a five-year, multi-million-dollar project on muscle-tendon biomechanics in children with cerebral palsy at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, United States. Before joining West Coast University, Dr. Nuri served as an Assistant Professor at several institutions, including the University of Sydney in Australia and Oakland University in Michigan, United States.

Her research focuses on understanding the mechanical changes that occur in muscles and tendons in response to various physical therapy interventions. By utilizing advanced imaging, biomechanics, and engineering techniques, her goal is to enhance outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal and neurological disorders. She has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals and presented her findings at numerous national and international conferences.

Dr. Nuri is also passionate about teaching and promoting research and evidence-based practice (EBP). She actively advocates for integrating EBP into healthcare systems and has conducted numerous workshops on this topic at regional APTA conferences across the United States.
