At WCU, our goal is to build both the skills and the confidence graduates rely on in the field. That’s why our technologically advanced nursing simulation centers are an integral part of our nursing curriculum. Simulation, coupled with hands-on clinical opportunities, gives WCU students many opportunities to perfect their skills.
Our method for using clinical simulation in nursing gives students clearly defined learning outcomes that emphasize nursing processes, safety, infection control, therapeutic communication, collaboration, decision making and leadership.
“When our students work in the simulation centers, they are given the opportunity to practice their skills repetitively,” Lisa Otto, WCU-Dallas Simulation Center & Skills Manager said. That constant exposure helps them to become comfortable and confident with their communication with patients, implementation of the procedures in the clinical environment and diagnosis.”
