WCU Alumni Spotlight: Jenny Asuncion, BSN

Jenny Asuncion wasn’t always sure she could earn her bachelor of science in nursing degree. Before Asuncion found West Coast University, she applied for an associate degree of science in nursing program at a different college and unfortunately was rejected.

“My friends told me to check out WCU and within a month I was enrolled and started my program,” Asuncion shared. “So now instead of getting my associates in nursing, I ended up with my bachelors in nursing.”

Now a proud 2017 BSN graduate from West Coast University-Ontario, Asuncion began her career at Victor Valley Global Medical Center as a medical-surgical nurse, in addition to working as a private home health nurse and who also shares her nursing journey through her YouTube channel.

“I am a proud alumni of West Coast University. They’ve shaped me to be a strong nurse full of passion for the nursing profession.”

At West Coast University, Asuncion was able to thrive and get one step closer to her dream of becoming a United States Air Force flight nurse.

“I’m the type of person that is very dedicated to school, to my goals,” Asuncion added. “WCU gave me a set number of classes in a specific amount of time with a specific number of deadlines and that’s what I loved about West Coast University.”

In reflecting on advice for future alumni, Asuncion discussed advice her mother passed on to her. “My mother taught me one thing that no matter what you do in life, even when you’re in nursing school, is to always keep a fighting spirit, and that is what I always hold on to every day.”
