WCU MHA Student Spotlight: Latifah Turner

Posted on 08/06/2018

After several years of struggling to find the right time to go back to school, Latifah Turner began to look at online programs that would help her continue her education. She found the perfect fit in West Coast University’s master of health administration program.

“My goal was to be an occupational therapist, but with my schedule, it didn’t work out.” Turner said. “I didn't want to quit on my education, so I decided to get a masters so I could still be a part of the healthcare industry.”

WCU provided Turner with an environment and the tools to grow into a great leader in the healthcare industry. From dedicated professors to an amazing Career Services team, Turner felt that everyone at WCU was there to help every step of the way.

“The online program was great because everyone was very helpful. There were a ton of resources available to me, I even had a teacher that offered Facetime tutoring which was really convenient when you're confused about a topic.” she said. “My classmates were there for me too, reaching out to me through email to exchange numbers so we could have the support system to get through the program even though we were taking the classes online.”

Turner hopes that her education from WCU will open new doors for her to move into her dream career working as a health administrator care coordinator for a mental health program or in pediatric rehabilitation services for occupational therapy.

As a proud WCU alumni, Turner has three tips for success for students who are thinking about starting the MHA program.

“You have to be organized, prioritize your work and, most importantly, you have to be confident in yourself,” she said. “There's going to be times where it's hard but you can’t quit on it. You have to stay dedicated.”
