WCU Alumni Share Advice with Students at WCU-Los Angles Nursing Showcase

Posted on 06/28/2019

As a collaborative effort between Career Services and the Alumni Relations Team, West Coast University-Los Angeles held a Nursing Specialty Showcase for students on June 27.

For students, Monica Gutierrez and Ross Reinacher, career fairs like these are essential for their future success. While attending the Showcase they were able to learn about different areas of healthcare from WCU Alumni currently working in the field.

“The fact that they graduated from West Coast makes me feel better about being able to go out there, get a job, and find a career that I like and my path in nursing,” Gutierrez said.

“I think this is invaluable,” Reinacher said. “I've found a lot of useful information here. It’s great having people who have been in our situation, telling us what they’ve gone through and what they're doing now.”

WCU-Los Angeles Alumna Christina Le (BSN ’16) was happy to come back to her old stomping grounds to help future nurses find their niche.
“I think it's important to teach the others along the way that probably are having the same struggles that you did,” Le said. “I think it's really nice to hear that there is success outside of school and that we all can do it and you're going to make it.”

Alumnus Shota Mkrtumyan (BSN ’17) shared with students advice on the importance of doing what you love.

“Health care gives you the option to do many things,” Mkrtumyan said. “You could do inpatient care or in the insurance industry but the most important advice that I would give is find your niche. I know we all need to have financial needs but don't focus on the money focus on something that you would love to do for the rest of your life.”

Overall, 19 alumni attended the event to share their experiences and give current students insight into their chosen field.
