During the term of travel, participating students will spend all except weeks 5 and 6 with the rest of their classmates in the regularly-scheduled section of Public Health Nursing and Public Health Nursing Practicum. During weeks 5 and 6 of the term, participating students will separate from the main cohort to conduct a portion of their required clinical and theory work abroad. Students will be accompanied by a WCU faculty member, who will deliver public health nursing lectures abroad. To avoid delay in progress toward graduation, participants may be enrolled in an online section of NURS 420, Principles of Leadership and Management, or an online section of NURS 440, Issues and Trends in Nursing. Participants taking NURS 420 would initially be enrolled in the face-to-face section then switched to the online section upon acceptance.

In addition, accepted students will be required to attend two orientation meetings in the weeks leading up to the trip. Orientation meetings will cover culture and intercultural topics, travel immunizations, safety for travel abroad, the healthcare system specific to the program location, an overview of clinical activites during the trip, and packing and travel tips.

It is the student’s responsibility to visit with Financial Aid and review schedules with campus representatives to verify graduation date. WCU will be unable to accommodate students who wish to alter their schedules to take Public Health Nursing out of its intended sequence.
