Program Specific Requirements


Applicants for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) program must:

1. Pass the HESI admission test with a minimum score of 80% overall; OR provide proof of a minimum SAT score of 1000 on older version or 1500 on SAT with Essay; OR provide proof of a minimum ACT score of 20. Applicants have two attempts at the HESI exam. If an applicant does not pass the HESI exam after two attempts, the applicant must wait a period of 6 months for a third attempt to pass the HESI and must provide proof of remediation. 


It is necessary to have a good foundation in certain basic subjects in order to successfully complete this program.  The HESI exam is designed to confirm an applicant's aptitude in subjects relevant to a career in healthcare.  For instructions on how to download the HESI exam review, click here.

 

Applicants for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, RN to BSN bridge program must:

1. Provide proof of current unobstructed professional licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the United States;

2. Provide proof of graduation from an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing program or the equivalent, evidenced by official transcripts.

 

Applicants, including applicants for advanced standing, for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene (BSDH) program must:

1. Provide the Dental Hygiene Observation response verifying observation of practicing dental hygienists in at least two practices for a minimum of 8 hours;

2. Pass the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a minimum score of 60% in Math, 60% in Science, 70% in English, and 75% in Reading. The applicant must pass the TEAS exam with minimum subsection scores and/or have an Individual Total Score at or above 70%. Applicants have two attempts at the TEAS exam. If an applicant does not pass the TEAS exam after two attempts, the applicant must wait a period of 6 months for a third attempt to pass the TEAS and must provide proof of remediation. Passing TEAS scores are valid for one year.

 

Note: Dental hygiene program applicants will be notified of acceptance status once a complete application with supporting documentation has been evaluated and the selection process has concluded. The selection process includes an objective evaluation of (1) the TEAS Examination subscores (maximum points possible are Math 20, Science 25, English 15, and Reading 15) and Individual Total Score; and (2) the Dental Hygiene Observation verification and response paper (25 maximum points possible). Information for the TEAS Examination and Dental Hygiene Observation are provided during the application process. There is no waiting list for subsequent admission. Applicants not selected must reapply and resubmit all required materials.

 

Applicants for the Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) program must:

1. Pass the HESI A2 at the 90% level or have achieved 1500 on the GRE.

2. Have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree and a degree in Nursing.

3. Be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN).

Applicants for the Master's of Science in Health Care Management (MSHCM) program must:

  • Have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. 
    • Applicants who have earned a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.7 to 2.99 admitted on probation for one semester, requiring a B or better to be removed from probation during their first semester
  • For students who have an undergraduate degree in either Business or Health Care Management, the criteria outlined above are sufficient.
  • For students who have an undergraduate degree in a program other than Business or Health Care Management,
    • Students are required to have fulfilled the pre-requisite requirement equivalents of Math 108 (College Mathematics) and 310 (WCU undergraduate Statistics course).
    • Applicants have the following options to meet admissions criteria:
      • GRE score of 1000 OR
      • GMAT score of 400 OR
      • Earn a B or higher in WCU's BUSI101 course (Introduction to Business)
